David Luís Simón Morales, M.D. is Director of Congenital Heart Surgery at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Morales is a Professor of Pediatrics and Surgery and is the Clark-Helmsworth Endowed Chair of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery. He completed his undergraduate education at Duke University, going on to medical school at Yale University and completed his general surgery and cardiothoracic residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital (Columbia University). He went to Texas Children’s Hospital in 2004 to be the Emmett Augustus Jones Congenital Heart Surgery fellow. He remained on staff there for 9 years before going to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. He has an active research lab ranging from RO-1 Grant in Re-Vamping Transplant Allocation using AI, to tissue engineering, to virtual surgery. His clinical interests include biventricular repairs in Heterotaxy Syndrome, complex neonatal surgery, mechanical circulatory support and the failing Fontan Circulation. Dr. Morales has contributed >240 manuscripts and 26 book chapters/reviews to the medical literature, has had >250 abstracts accepted to academic meetings, and has given >250 lectures nationally and internationally. He is on the editorial board of 5 journals (i.e. Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation). Recently, because of his interest in quality improvement and outcome databases at a local and national level, he has been asked to serve as the Director of Outcomes and Quality for the Department of Surgery at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
