Professor Lluís Guirado is Director of the Renal Transplant Unit at the Fundació Puigvert Hospital in Barcelona, Spain. After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from the Central University of Barcelona in 1986, he specialised in nephrology at the Fundació Puigvert and Autonomous University of Barcelona. In 1991, he became a Consultant in Nephrology at the Renal Transplant Unit of the Fundació Puigvert, and subsequently took up his current role.
As frequent national and international speaker, professor Guirado is active in clinical research investigating renal transplantation from living and expanded criteria donors, immunosuppressive treatment, and opportunistic infections in renal transplantation. Professor Guirado has authored/co-authored numerous publications on these subjects in both the national and international medical press.
