Dr. Sung is the director of Neurocritical Care and Stroke at the University of Southern California (USC). He has trained at the Universities of Minnesota and Maryland and Johns Hopkins University. At Johns Hopkins, he received his first faculty appointment.
He is a founding member and past-president of the international Neurocritical Care Society (with members from over 50 different countries). He also helped start two other professional societies and has had leadership positions at the American Heart Association, National Stroke Association, Society of Critical Care Medicine and American Academy of Neurology. Currently, he is President-elect of the World Federation of Intensive and Critical Care.
His research interests are improving outcomes of stroke and TBI with neurocritical care. He is now leading a global effort to standardize the determination of brain death.
