Updates on 17th CAST
Dear friends and colleagues,
With the end of the global COVID-19 pandemic not clearly in sight and with the curtain on the closure of 2020 coming soon, the Organising Committee of 17th CAST, in consultation with the Executive committee of the Asian Society of Transplantation, has decided to proceed with the hosting of a Virtual Congress.
As with many other regional and international events, this will be the first time when the Asian transplant fraternity meets in the biannual AST congress without physical contact and participation. While major challenges lie ahead, we already have several examples of successfully hosted on-line or virtual scientific events to guide and encourage us to proceed with the new normal get-around way to fulfil the needs to update ourselves with the advances in science and clinical practice of transplantation, while ensuring at the same time that we protect ourselves and colleagues from the danger and adverse consequences of COVID-19.
We have finalised the rich and exciting scientific program and have received to date, confirmation of participation as invited speakers from a large majority of the renowned experts from Asia- Pacific region, Europe and North America. In addition to the usual Plenary lectures, themed symposia, free paper sessions and debates, we have given a special focus on several areas of importance in Asia , including Women in Transplantation, Asian Transplant Registry, and Declaration of Istanbul Custodian Group needs.
A special section on Transplantation in Asia provides a forum for speakers from several countries in the region to share with us their successes and challenges in developing and improving their transplant program. This will be complemented by special sessions on Vital Link and ODISSeA, the pro transplant initiatives for the international community organised by the Seoul National University and University of Barcelona respectively.
Despite the restraint and hurdles impacted on all of us by the ongoing pandemic, we hope to attract participation from as many delegates and corporate sponsors as possible to support and participate in the upcoming congress which we promise will be an exciting and rewarding event for all. Please look up for more updates and information which will be shared in this website from time to time.
With best regards to all, take care and stay safe.
